Udupi: Lokayukta Sleuths Nab Corrupt Commercial Tax Officer Red-handed

Udupi, Jun 11: Lokayukta sleuths caught a commercial tax officer red-handed while accepting bribe from a pigmy collector of a nationalized bank and took him into their custody here on Friday June 11 at 2.00 pm.
Prabhakar, a pigmy collector of Canara Bank, Kallianpur branch, near here lodged a complaint with Lokayukta office that Cheluvaraj, a commercial tax officer demanded a bribe of Rs 8,000 to deal with a professional tax issue, which was leter reduced to Rs 3,000. the bribe money to Rs 3,000 and told Prabhakar to meet him with the money in nearby Hotel Kidiyoor on NH 17 at 2.00 pm on Friday.
Acting on a complaint, Lokayukta sleuths laid the trap to arrest Cheluvaraj, who was to meet Prabhakar to receive the money at a spot on NH – 17 near Hotel Kidiyoor.
Further investigations are underway. Lokayukta superintendent of police Dr Prabhudev Mane led the operation supported by sub-inspector Dinesh Kumar, police personnel Divakar Suvarna, Divakar Sharma, Ramachandra Bhat, Sridhar, Umesh, Ashok, Santhosh and Laxmidar Seti.
