Mangalore, Jun 11:
“The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve” (Mt 20:28). In response to this teaching of Jesus Christ, 22 young men, five from Mangalore, two from Calicut, three from Kannur, two from Shimoga, three from Gulbarga, one from Gumbla, and six Carmelites received the Order of Diconate on Thursday June 10.

Dr Vargheese Chakkalakal, the Bishop Of Kannur undertook the ordination at the oratory of St Joseph’s Seminary here. Dr Robert Miranda, bishop of Gulbarga was also present at the Holy Mass. Fr Joseph Martis, the rector, called out the names of the brothers to be conferred by the bishop as deacons.

In his homily the bishop reminded the ordained of their duties and responsibilities. He gave the call to the deacons to work like Jesus and to work for Jesus and also to become the men of prayer and service. After the Holy Eucharist, the newly ordained deacons were felicitated by the seminary.

Parents, friends, seminarians, religious, priests and relatives of deacons witnessed their presence in the celebration.
