Bahrain: 12 Singers Qualify for ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore’ Semi-finals

Bahrain, Jun 12: Karavali Konkans Association held the preliminary auditions of the Gulf Voice of Mangalore  at the  Papillon Restaurant  Hall on  Friday June 11. 

Of the 17 contestants, 12 were selected with equal representation for men and women. These talented singers will participate in the semi-finals to be held on September 30.  

The programme began with Hanna Miranda and Elston D’Souza rendering a prayer song while John D’Souza welcomed the gathering.  A minute of silence was observed to honour the late Wilfy Rebimbus and the 158 victims of the Mangalore plane crash.  

John gave a brief introduction of Karavali Konkans Association, which was established in 2006. The association has staged it debut programme  ‘Dabazo  2006’ followed by ‘Gulf Voice of Mangalore 2008’ and ‘Bolpo’ comedy play 2009. 

Nirmala Fernandes introduced the distinguished judges Swibert Mascarenhas , Sandra Palana, John Fernandes, and Sebastian Fernandes, well-known  personalities of the  music and  entertainment fraternity in Bahrain.  

The auditions began at 11 am with the solo performances and the contest concluded at around 1.30 pm to  thunderous  applause from the  audience . 

Among  the contestants were  a  married  couple Premitha  Periera and Simon  Roshna  Vas who added  colour  to the event with their  performance as it is not every day that  we see couples  contesting  in a competition. 

Ronald D F D’Souza thanked all the participants and judges and outlined the rules and  regulations for the semi-finals.  

Vincent D’Souza gave the vote of thanks and a sumptuous lunch was served by Papillon  Restaurant. DJ Joe kept  the crowd busy. 

The semi -finals will take place at the  Palace Hotel, Bahrain, on September 30  and the finals will be held in Dubai.
