Udupi, Jun 13: Burglars took away an automated teller machine (ATM) of the State Bank of India (SBI) NRI branch, located in a building at Kinnimulky, in the wee hours of Sunday June 13.

This ATM had been inaugurated just a week ago and the kiosk had no armed guards and also no closed-circuit television (CCTV) installed for surveillance and this acted in favour of the burglars. The stolen ATM contained about Rs 15 lac in cash.

It may be recalled that a similar burglary was recently reported for the first time in Bangalore, after a group of burglars stole an ATM belonging to HDFC at Chandrapur Main Road. Meanwhile, it’s the first such case in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district.

Police have found clues left behind at the empty ATM kiosk by the burglars, who seemed to be professionals with good knowledge of the working of an ATM.  An ATM weighs over 400 kgs and might have needed many men and a mini-truck to cart it away.

Further investigations by the police will reveal the modus operandi of the burglars.

I am not surprised at this burglary.SBI is sick bank with sick people.Has anyone noticed the Changes made in the Statebank Mangalore head office. The Metal grills replaced are so weak, i can bend them with my hands.I even complained to the chief Manager, who seems to brush away the fears.I wonder how much commission the management got out of this renovation of the building. and I feel this new modification is an Invitation to More trouble. Please take this seriously.

It seems people living in gulf are more intelligent than than those living here in India. For every thing they are quick to either condemn and or to give free unsolicited advices. I pity your attitude and level of intelligence. Better read the news and offer constructive advice than just scribbling some thing to draw the attention of other readers.

First of all this looks like someone from the bank is involved or has an hand in it, the bank should be questioned, this was bound to happen, same goes with the SBI, branch at udupi Bus stand, which is located in a dark area, the steps are so dark, a crime is in waiting only then something will be done, and the guards make me laugh whenever I visit the branch, they are always busy chatting with the staff, totally unprofessinal look, there should be some kind of a system in our banks which is lacking, and when a crime of this nature take place it is talked about for a few days and then back to square one. Hope sense prevail.

This news made me to laugh. This can happen only in great India!.
Police should arrest people , those installed this ATM without any security devices and Manager of the SBI branch immediately. I think some inside hands are involved in this incident. Greedy people all over the place these days.

Hearty congratulations to all the participated buglars. Stupid SBI management coz this was not their money at all. Now I have a doubt too. Someone might have been involved from the same ATM management and if there is a strict investigation soon then the truth will burst out soon. Original burglars and culprits are the SBI management I say. Well done. 21st century Amjad Kna and his whole samba team.

    Folks,

I am familiar with NCR ATMs and seen them(from inside!) since 1991....

No where in the world I have seen ATMs being installed without CCTVs...

Manager who installed this without CCTV should be officially d as Moron and should be made a politician with immediate effect...

"Vidhvans" you can recruit him/her, perhaps he/she can take over, when you go to heavenly abode....
