High Court Directs Mangalore University to issue Degree Certificates to SAC Students

Media Release

Bangalore / Mangalore, Jun 20: Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka through an Order has directed Mangalore University to issue the  Degree Certificates within 15 days of the Order to the students of Postgraduate programmes of 2007-08 batch of St.Aloysius College (Autonomous). The High Court has strongly felt that the pending issue between the Mangalore University and the College should not come in the way of the future of the students. In the light of this Order, SACAA urges Mangalore University to issue the degree certificates to all eligible students.

Keeping in view, 130 years of dedicated services of St.Aloysius College, SACAA appeals to Mangalore University to grant academic autonomy to the institution as envisaged in UGC Guidelines and National Higher Education Policy.

" St. Aloysius College has been re-accredited by NAAC with the highest “A” Grade. Moreover, the College has been awarded by UGC the status of “College with Potential for Excellence” under the 11th Five year plan. It is not proper to say that the college does not have required facilities or the college is not cooperating with the university. After becoming autonomous, the college has completely restructured the degree courses in tune with the aspirations of the society and industry. Several Postgraduate programmes have been started for the benefit of the students. Huge investment has been made for upgrading the facilities and also for providing the needed infrastructure. St.Aloysius has shaped the future of generations of students. At present more than 5000 students are pursuing their higher education in the institution. The College being a prestigious institution is certainly Dakshina Kannada’s pride." Media release states.

I was bit upset with the Mangalore university for failing recognise the service rendered to the D.K district by St.Aloysius college. It is a clear sign of injustice and partiality by the university towards some of the well known institutions this made me to feel mangalore university has forgotten its role to form men and women towards a better society it is more interested in making money and in controlling institutions which are doing far better than the university itself. as a student of aloysius i feel it is a blessing to have college like Aloysius which provides number of opportunities to grow. We can't deny the memorable service rendered by such a college to the city of mangalore for the last 130 years It has always tried to reach up to the expectations of people and of the time. It is heart breaking to see the university treating such an institution in a silly way.

Great news for anxious students and parents. May be the University cannot comprehend and appreciate the quality education offered by SAC to students irrespective of the caste and creed.

Blaming/Praising Mangalore University or SAC/other colleges is not important here. Conflicts do arise the wise is the one who respects the justice and take right measures not to repeat the mistake or conflict which leads to suffering. In this case, mainly students sufferred.

I am graduated from Mangalore University and I am successfulI have great respect to this University. I always wanted to study in SAC but could not do so due to travel distance from home. But I have close friends graduated in this college from all religions, who are today very successful professionals. They always share thier good moral memories of this institution.

I would like to conclude once again this way conflicts do arise, but resolve them professionally and do not repeat the mistakes. If such a respectful educational institutions and universities repeat such issues, then none may find a definition for Education.

I think, all would appreiciate if management of SAC and Mangalore University give a JOINT media release and close this issue peacefully and show your respect to Education. Let students learn from you...

The relevant authorities should make a thorough review of the functioning of the Mangalore University. It is obvious that a major spring cleaning exercise is required to be done at the university, if not our Mangalore University has the potential of deteriorating into a “Centre for Excellence in Corruption”. I fully agree with the comments made by Eric Coelho below.

Good News & Congratulations to all those Students in waiting to receive their Degree Certificates. At least in this instance the Hon'ble High Court of Karnataka has passed the judgement in relatively short period of time. We are all proud of SAC, one of the Crown Jewel of Mangalore.

Any way, it's not pleasing to read the behind the scene tug of war between Mangalore's two prestigious educational institutions. I advise them to shed off their egos and solve such issues amicably. It's sad to know that court has to intervene between them just like land disputes...

The People of D.K. should be proud of 2 Great Educational Institution in Mangalore - St. Aloysius and St. Agnes. The High Court judgement is to be applauded. It is a shame on part of Mangalore University to put the future of students at risk by not issuing the Degree Certs. Learned people are appointed to Mangalore University and it is disgusting to note that these learned people of Mangalore University to take their revenge on SAC have put the future of the students at stake. The dedicated educational services of nearly 125 years by SAC cannot be held to Ransom by a University that was born only 25 to 30 years back. It is time that Mangalore University sets right its own house in Order which is infested with corruption. The LLB Results and recent News of BBM Results shows how money exchanged hands to increase the marks of those who scored less marks while entering the University ledger. Stop fighting with Private and Public Education Institutions and concentrate in Building a strong foundation to the University. Though we have some of the best educational institutions in Mangalore which Mangaloreans should be proud of we have a corrupted infested University. Mangalore has been a hub of education recognised all over the world but our university is the worst in the world.

Thats great news. I congratulate SAC, her PG Students and the faculty & management team. A education center of the caliber of SAC must be let to live the reputation she earned with service to education over all these years.

"The College being a prestigious institution is certainly Dakshina Kannada’s pride." Very True.

    Folks,

    I welcome this judgement.

Even though I am generally against courts telling universities how colleges are run or courts telling surgeons how to perform surgery, here it is justified because since long time Managlore University is full of morons, scumbags and lowlifes...

They deserve this for long , they think by giving honourary doctorates to Moily and Oscar they can circumvent their short comings...
