Mangaluru: Eight CCB cops transferred after video with betting accused goes viral

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jan 31: Eight police personnel belonging to city crime branch (CCB) have been transferred for dereliction of duty and misconduct.

A video, purportedly of on-duty CCB police personnel sharing a table in a bar and restaurant with the accused in a betting case, and allegedly consuming liquor, had gone viral on social media.

Taking serious note of the incident, city commissioner of police N Shashi Kumar has taken strict action against the erring police personnel. On Saturday January 31, the commissioner ordered the transfer of three ASIs and five head constables, who were involved in the act, to different police stations.

In his statement the city police commissioner said, "It has come to my knowledge that eight policemen had food with the accused in a betting case and also allowed him to consume liquor. This is wrong. Hence the department has taken disciplinary action against the erring policemen."

"It is very disappointing to see such conduct by our staff, as it would jeopardize all our efforts to improve public perception and police image. It is on the grounds of sharing table with an accused of betting case, that too when on duty. It cannot be established whether the staff also consumed alcohol or not," he said.

"Some of the staff did not know complete details about him (the accused). Despite some explanation given by our officers and staff, this decision was taken as I found it is appropriate and proportionate. Not everyone can be equally held responsible for the lapse, though it is a grave lapse. Hence this is proportionate action," he said.

As per the order, three ASIs and five head constables have been transferred to Konaje, Bajpe, North, Kankanady town, Mangaluru South, Urwa and Barke police stations with immediate effect.

Just in the last few weeks he was proudly parading the accused...Now why has he not released the names and pictures of the policemen... Also what kind of punishment is transfer of posting... They will now spread the rot in other police stations... This Commisioner is no less morally corrupt than his predecessors...

Why transfer. When police catch criminals do they transfer them from one state to another? Criminal treatment should be conferred all those in these heinous acts.

This is nothing new as the same scene can be seen in most bars only this time someone recorded it on video. Hope there is no FIR filed against the cameraman for disrespecting police and anti-national behaviour.

First teach your poilice force the meaning of right and wrong. Let them work according to the tenets of law and what is right. Policr should not blindly follow orders of the government just for the sake of salary and perks. We can see from what is happening all around the country that the police force is just another terrorist organisation without a spine of its own.

Just more proof that once you are employed in any govt. organisation in India, the max. that can be done to you is "transfer"(suspension is another jocular word used) and then you can continue doing the same elsewhere. You can never be thrown out of your job which is what would have happened in the case of those who are hired and fired for lack of integrity and non-performance.

That is why govt. officials in India have zero accountability .

K.R.Ballal Kapu,I can understand what you mean. But in such cases simply leave that job under pressure ,and harass, take another job where you work better with mental peace. But when you work somewhere have to do your job with pride and rules.Dont go against it because to please your chief. It is against your conscious.Suppose one does this ,he has to be suspended on the spot.and even his pension should be reduced ,because he didnt work according to his govt jobs rule.Betting in Uniform is a offence, drinking too. They have to concentrate on their duty not on leisure with accused.Shame on them.No wonder People too dont respect them.May be the accused had spent food ,drinks and much more.
