Bantwal, Jun 23: The efforts put in by the search parties including the fire brigade personnel since Tuesday morning bore fruits on Tuesday June 22 evening, with the recovery of the bodies of two out of the three youth, who had ventured into River Netravati for taking bath at Mastikatte, Panemangalore, on Monday June 21.
Bodies of Chandrakant (28), son of Rama Poojary, and Abubakker Siddique (23), son of Hasanabba, from Putrotibail in Narikombu village, have been found, while the fate of the other youth, Ravindra alias Ravi (22), son of the late Gangaiah Moolya, is not known. The body of Chandrakant was retrieved from Tumbe vented dam by the fire brigade personnel, and the body of Siddique started floating at the spot where the three had entered the river, on Tuesday afternoon. Ravindra, a carpenter by profession, was the breadwinner of his family, and his father had died on May 12. Chandrakant, a mason, also looked after his family. Abubakker did odd jobs like processing of areca nuts and painting.
Expert divers like Issac, Hakim Panemangalore, Hanif Jainarapet, Rafique Akkarangady and some boatmen voluntarily toiled to search for the bodies in the river since Tuesday morning.
Reportedly, Ravindra was the only among the three, who did not know how to swim. Hence it is thought that his two friends tried to save him when he started drowning. The three were members of Navajeevan Gymnasium in Narikombu, lived in the same locality, and were close friends, it is learnt.
