Mangalore: MSEZ Distances Itself from Gregory Patrao Land Controversy
Media Release
Mangalore, Jun 25: Through a press release dated June 22, 2010, Mangalore Special Economic Zone Ltd (MSEZ) has expressed surprise at the fact that its name is being needlessly dragged into the issue concerning the acquisition of land belonging to Gregory Patrao.
It has pointed out that Gregory Patrao had been fighting a dogged court battle against the acquisition of his land by Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board for Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) since 1996, when MSEZ was never in the picture. The company has pointed out that following the losing of the court cases by Gregory, the authorities had acquired his land for the III phase expansion of MRPL.
MSEZ suspects that the name of MSEZ was dragged into the picture due to the handiwork of vested interests and some directionless NGOs, driven by their own agenda, under the pretext of coming to the aid of Patrao.
As regards the patrons of artists ganging up against MSEZ, the release has pointed out that this has become old hat. Advising the concerned to adopt a ‘progressive’ subjects that being ‘regressive’, it said that the ‘modern oil paint’ used by the artists in some cases, is derived as a by-product of refineries, against which they are now agitating.
