Mangalore, Jul 4: The inaugural ceremony of advanced MRI and Cathlab was held at the conference hall of A J Hospital and Research Centre here on Saturday July 3.

Coastal Development Authority chairman Nagaraj Shetty inaugurated the newly installed state-of-the-art Digital Flat Panel Cathlab. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Mangalore is fast advancing in the healthcare sector and almost all kinds of treatments are available. “The doctors and nurses have made Tulunadu proud”, he added.

He lauded the contribution of A J Hospital for its dedicated service in the healthcare sector.



































Dr K R Shetty, neurologist and former principal, KMC, Mangalore inaugurated the 1.5 Telsa 18 Channels MRI.  He said that the latest technology should not be misused and the management should take good care of the instrument. The institution should mainly strive hard to serve the society. 

Components of the Blood Bank was inaugurated by professor Mukhta R Pai, HOD, pathology, KMC. Explaining the benefits of the advanced MRI, she said that all types of treatments can be carried out and it will be of great help to the people of city.

Senior radiologist Dr Ganesh briefed the gathering about the latest MRI. Explaining about its features he said that it has good speed, quality and advanced applications.

Dr B V Manjunath, cardiologist described about the cathlab.  He said that the IC stenting software has been installed in there. Dr Aravind spoke about the features of blood bank.

Amarnath Shetty, former minister, B A Shetty, industrialist and medical directors Dr Prashant Marla, medical director among others were present. 

Dean Ramesh Pai said that A J Hospital is one of the youngest institution in the city and since its inception has strived hard to help the needy. He said that the hospital is proud to be offering services of quality doctors.

A J Shetty, chairman, A J Group of Institutions, presiding over the function said, “My decade old dream of dedicating a hospital for the poor has become a reality now. Super specialities we offer have benefited patients from worldwide especially middle east. Next year being the decennial year celebrations we will come up with more beneficial programmes”.

About the Cathlab and MRI

The new Digital flat panel Cathlab is first of its kind, with lot of advanced features for cardiac investigation and intervention.  It has additional software support and gives a better quality of images and help Cardiologists in performing complex procedures.
The MRI is a high field 1.5 Tesla, 18 channel, supercon system with Total Imaging Matrix (TIM). It comes fully loaded with the neuro, ortho, cardiac, onco, body, angio, paediatric and breast suites.

This advanced machine is capable of - whole body - head to toe imaging in a very short time, better image clarity leading to improved diagnosis, faster imaging – leading to better patient compliance, especially sick and restless patients, spectroscopic studies are possible, which help in better characterization of tumours and malignancies, diagnosing neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, etc.)

These new machines have been imported from Siemens, Germany.

    Its really good to have such advanced cath lab facility in A.J Hospitals. I hope Dr.B.V. Manjunath can do miracles in heart related problems using this advanced machine and technology. The efforts of Mr. A.J shetty is worth praising.
