Bahrain: Nine-car Pile-up Pair Recovering

Bahrain, Jul 18 (GDN): TWO Indian women, who were injured in a nine-car pile-up in Sehla last week, are recovering at home.

Shakuntla Nirloti, 40, and her cousin Stella Rodericks, 36, were travelling home when the accident happened near the Shaikh Aziz Mosque, opposite Baqer Furnishing, at around 7am.

A Bahraini woman was driving from Jidhafs towards Isa Town when her car reportedly hit another vehicle, causing both to swerve onto the opposite side of the road.

It caused a pile-up of seven more cars travelling in the opposite direction.

Ms Nirloti and Ms Rodericks were trapped inside their Toyota Corolla and had to be cut free by firemen.

Ms Nirloti suffered a fracture to her right hand and minor chest injuries and Ms Rodericks sustained multiple injuries, none of which were serious.

Both were taken to Salmaniya Medical Complex, along with a Bahraini driver involved in the accident, who suffered minor injuries.

The victims were all discharged later that day.

"The accident happened when my cousin and I were going back home," said Ms Nirloti, from Goa.

"I am fine now, feeling better, but still have pain in my chest. I have an appointment on Wednesday, so let's see what the doctor has to say.

"My cousin (Ms Rodericks) is fine as well, but resting at home now."

Traffic was disrupted for almost two hours, particularly for motorists travelling from Isa Town to Manama, while a crane was brought to remove the damaged cars.
