Udupi: ‘Aati’ Festivities Begin in Coastal Region

Udupi, Jul 18: The festivities related to the month of ‘Aati’ in the coastal district gained momentum with the start of Aati on Saturday July 17. The month of Aati has special significance in Tulunadu culture based on the agrarian society of the past.
Various social welfare and voluntary organizations including local youth clubs and Mahila Mandal in the coastal district organize many festivities related to Aati such as ‘Aatidonji Dina’, ‘Aatidakoota’ and ‘Aatilace’, mainly in order to educate the new generation of the bygone celebrations of Aati.
Accordingly, Aatidonji Dina was celebrated under the leadership of Kalikamba Temple and Kalika Mahila Mandal, Kaup, near here on Sunday July 18.
Mangalore’s well-known social activist Bhagirati Acharya inaugurated the event that depicting the distinct Tulunadu culture.
Innanje gram panchayat president Vasanthi Acharya and social worker Rajeevi Acharya were felicitated at the same occasion.
Haleyangady Mahila Mandal president Renuka Acharya, Barkoor Sanskrit College principal Preethi Rekha Acharya, Kalikamba Mahila Mandal president Vijayalaxmi Acharya, and secretary Shashikala Acharya were present on the occasion.
