Reddy Withdraws Bribe Petition against Kumarswamy in Supreme Court

New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI):
Karnataka Tourism Minister G Janardhan Reddy on Tuesday withdrew his petition in the Supreme Court in which he had sought a CBI inquiry into alleged Rs 150-crore bribe collected by the then Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy from the mine lobby.

A Bench of Justices Dalveer Bhandari and Mukundakam Sharma allowed Reddy to "withdraw the petition as dismissed" after senior counsel Mukul Rohtagi sought permission for withdrawing the 2006 petition on the ground that the Karnataka government had handed over the case to the State Lok Ayukta headed by former apex court judge Justice(retd) Santosh Hegde.

Alleging that former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had collected a bribe of Rs. 150 crores from mine owners in Bellary, Janardhana Reddy had sought an inquiry by CBI into the allegations. Counsel Prashant Kumar, appearing for Kumaraswamy, told the court that in fact, there is a demand to entrust the entire issue of illegal mining to CBI but it was Reddy and the BJP government in Karnataka who are resisting the move.

The apex court then said that both Reddy and Kumaraswamy can put up their respective contentions before the High Court, if and when the situation arises.

The writ petition was filed by Janardhana Reddy in 2006 and the Supreme Court had on several occasions declined to issue notice. Incidentally, after the change of power, Janardhana Reddy and his brother G Karunakar Reddy, Revenue Minister, face allegations of illegal mining being probed by the Lok Ayukta.

Our ancestors were very wise men ...hence they coined the phrase 'birds of the same feather flock together'..WE are fools to believe them and vote according to religion, caste etc and they enjoy the fruit and we fight like fools while they watch the fun.

How clever of Reddys? If they don't want CBI inquiry now & can accept Lokayukta probe, why couldn't they do so in the past? If Lokayukta probe is okay, why not a judicial inquiry by Justice U L Bhat ordered by Kumaraswamy. At least it would have provided an opportunity to everybody to come clean because judicial inquiry is open to media & public & therefore, the Govt, Reddys, Congress, Kumaraswamy, JD(S) & all other mining lords could have come out with documents to ``nail'' everybody. The present tamasha & padayatras, samaveshas, homas & yagnas could have been avoided.

Reddys are obviously worried that Yeddy and Gowdas will come together again & want to prevent that by this move. There is obviously something deeper in this.

How come Reddy? Don't you know Lokayuktha has no powers to prosecute Kumaraswamy? He can just produce a report - that won't even bother a clerk caught red-handed in bribery case. The issue is in crores, thousands of it.

You guys are masters in corruption, there are a few shameless who can still call you Janardhan-appaji.

If anybody offers me something openly, I am ready to accept it open heartedly. Here, it is an offence if I accept anything which is coming illegally. Let's wait and see what all the cases will be withdrawn in future.

The people of karnataka are mere spectators in this BJP staged drama. The Yeddy Govt is welknown for dramas and road shows. Can anybody explain what is going on.????The guy who claims he bribed HDK and now he is saying sorry and I will withdraw the claim.I think our honest Lokayuktha should look at this issue seriously. The Reddigaru's as they claim they are pure as gold in their last staement..now they are selling the gold at throw away price.and BJP followers should grab the chance and identify the real chors of Bellary...And I think RS.150cr..are too much for BJP followers to count.
