Bangalore : Infosys Techie’s Wife Found Murdered
Bangalore, Aug 11 (DC): The residents of BDA layout in JP Nagar 8th phase woke up to the news of gruesome murder of a 27-year-old school teacher on Tuesday morning. In a brutal act, unidentified assailants fastened the victim, Priyanka Gupta, to a chair with a plastic rope and slit her throat. They escaped with Rs two lakh in cash and gold and silver ornaments from the pooja room. They, however, left her mangalsutra and bangles made of gold untouched. The victim was a teacher in Delhi Public School on Kanakapura Main Road.
According to Satish Gupta, the victim’s husband and a software engineer in Infosys Technologies Ltd, Priyanka was alone at home when she was murdered. Satish told the police that he was out jogging when he received a call from Priyanka at around 5.45 am, informing him that two men had arrived at the doorstep to offer subscription of a magazine. He told her to send them away.
“He says he returned home at around 6.30 am, but found the door locked. Priyanka did not respond when he tried calling her on the mobile phone. Then, he rushed to his parents’ house in Venkateshwara Layout and borrowed his father’s car to fetch a set of spare keys from his office in Electronics City. When he arrived home and opened the door, he found his wife brutally murdered,” said a police officer of Hulimavu police station.
The body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for an autopsy. Priyanka Gupta hails from Lucknow and the couple is married for three years, without issues. The assailants have left behind a pair of gloves, a plastic rope and a kitchen knife.
A senior police officer said the death was due to asphyxiation and the killers seemed to have slit her throat after smothering her. “The gold and silver articles kept in the pooja room were missing apart from Rs 2 lakh in cash. Usually, professional criminals do not leave behind tell-tale evidences like gloves and jackets. Moreover, when they strike, professional criminals won’t allow victims to contact anyone,” said the officer.
Meanwhile, joint commissioner of police (crime) Alok Kumar said the murder will be probed from all angles. “We still need to find out whether it was a murder for gain or for some other reason. Right now, we can only say that the killer is not a professional. We have recovered some materials which could have been used in the crime, but all of them appear newly purchased and used only to commit the murder,” he said.
Later, the staff and students of Delhi Public School mourned the death of their mathematics teacher. “After the meet to condole her death, we cancelled all activities slotted for the day and sent the students home. The school will remain closed on Wednesday as a mark of respect to Mrs Gupta,” said authorities at the school.
