Mangaluru, May 11: Shreyas Adiga from 1st PUC and Druhan Rajiv Shah from 2nd PUC of The Learning Centre PU College, a wing of Centre For Advanced Learning (CFAL) have proved their mettle once again by qualifying to the Online Mathematical Olympiad Orientation Camp (MOOC) of the International Mathematical Olympiads (IMO). The said students cleared the Indian National Mathematics Olympiad exam (INMO) and thereby advance to the next stage of Mathematics Olympiad program, MOOC – 2021. The students are now attending a two-week camp (MOOC) from May 1 to May 15.

As of now (due to pandemic), it is expected that the Indian team will participate in the online International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO; July 14–24). This year’s IMO is organised by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Government of St. Petersburg, Herzen University, Presidential Physics and Mathematics Lyceum ? 239.

About Shreyas Adiga

Shreyas Adiga was selected for the final stage of Sharygin Geometry Olympiad in Grade 9 and got his first diploma in Grade 10. He attended the final stage Sharygin Geometry Olympiad at Moscow, Russia in July 2020. He is selected in KVPY in 11th Std Category. He was selected for the final stage of NTSE, the results of which are yet be announced.

About Druhan Rajiv Shah

Apart from clearing INMO, Druhan Rajiv Shah has secured a Bronze Medal in the PLO Round 2 of Asia-Pacific Linguistic Olympiad. He cleared KVPY last year with an All India Rank of 78. He scored 100 percentile in Maths in JEE Mains 2021. He has also cleared Indian Olympiad Qualifiers in Astronomy. He is also an NTSE scholar in 2019.

Homi Bhabha Centre for Science education is the nodal centre of the country for Olympiad programmes. www.hbcse.tifr.res.in/olympiads.

The Olympiads examinations are conducted in subjects, physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, junior science and astronomy. The broad goals are to promote equity and excellence in science and mathematics education from primary school to undergraduate college level, and encourage the growth of scientific literacy in the country.

Stages of Mathematics Olympiad

Due to the ongoing pandemic this year, authorities had decided to culminate PRMO RMO in one stage named as Indian Olympiad Qualifiers in Mathematics (I0QM) which depleted the existing six steps procedure to four steps procedure.

Stage - 1: (especially for 2020-21 academic year). It is a 3-hour pen & paper test consisting of 30 questions. These questions have an integer answer either in one digit or two. The syllabus of IOQM is similar to PRMO & RMO. The ones who will clear this round will move ahead for Indian National Mathematics Olympiad (INMO).

Stage - 2: Indian National Mathematics Olympiad (INMO) is a four-hour pen & paper examination with 6 questions, from topics like Number theory, Algebra and Geometry etc.

Stage - 3: Online Mathematical Olympiad Orientation Camp (MOOC) is the third stage of the Selection Procedure. After clearing INMO, students are trained on the theoretical and experimental level of Olympiads from leading mathematicians in the Country. And after the end of this camp, the team of 6 students are selected.

Stage - 4: The selection of the Indian team for IMO will be made on the basis of the merit list of MOOC 2021. Each student in the merit list of MOOC 2021 will receive the INMO Awardee certificate and the INMO Awardee certificate will be given ONLY to the students in the merit list of MOOC 2021. The top six students in the merit list of MOOC 2021 will be selected provisionally for the Indian team. They will be accompanied by two teacher leaders and an observer. Although many private entities conduct various exams called Olympiads, this is the only official Olympiad conducted by the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resources that leads to the International level. The participation in such competitive examinations can motivate students with Math and Science aptitude to nourish and excel in their field of interest.
