Mangalore: Mumbai Superfast Train to Begin Operations from Aug 14

Mangalore: Mumbai Superfast Train to Begin Operations from Aug 14
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Aug 13: Mumbai-Karwar Super Fast Express Train stands extended to the city with effect from Saturday August 14. While this decision has brought cheers to the people of the district, most of whom have strong links with the commercial capital of the country, the fact that the train will run from Kankanady (Mangalore Junction) instead of the Central railway station, has come as a dampener to their spirits.

Surprisingly, the railway time table shows the destination of the train as Mangalore Central. Sources said that bowing to strong Kerala lobby, the train is being terminated at Kankanady with an eye on its possible extension to Kerala in the coming days. As per the time table, the train is set to leave Mumbai at 10.15 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and reach Mangalore Central station at 12.15 pm the next day. It is slated to leave Mangalore Central station at 1.50 pm on Thursdays, Saturdays and Tuesdays, and reach Mumbai CST at 4.05am the next day. Violating the time table fixed by the Railway Time Table Committee, the railways have decided to terminate the train at Kankanady for obvious reasons.

The train is set to be inaugurated at Kankanady station at 9 am on August 14. Udupi Railway Commuters Association president, R L Dias, has said that this smacks of a clear ploy to extend the train to Kerala in the coming days, as no plausible reasons have been offered for changing the train’s destination to Kankanady instead of Attavar (Central).

Commuters will have to spend considerable amount of time and money additionally to reach Kankanady railway station, which is located far away from the city, and road communication facilities to this station are bad. Autorickshaws charge hefty sums to commuters going to this railway station.  MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, and several other dignitaries have voiced their protest against this decision of the railways. It is to be seen as to whether their voices will ultimately die down as it happened when the Bangalore train was extended to Kannur in the past.

Why our Karnataka politicians keep quiet with this issue. Make protests , stop the inaugration and automatically train will come to Manglore railway station. If we keep quite then i am sure Mangalapurum will no longer a part of Karnataka.

Mangaloreans are again being taken for a ride by the authorities. This sort of thing must definately be opposed tooth and nail. The authorites concerned are not ignorant, all this is just mischief. The train must touch Mangalore Central or else it's purpose is defeated. There must be suitable opposition from the people, elected representatives and all concerned.

Is there something error in the reported schedule of timings? If Matsyagandha takes about 18 hours to traverse the distance between Mangalore and Mumbai, why should this train take over 26 hours to cover the same distance?

Instead of blaming the 'greed' of the neighbouring state we must examine why we allow others to steal our blessings and get away with it so easily.

In the past few weeks the Air India Express services from Kuwait to Mangalore were badly disrupted and there is still uncertainty about the flights. Well, almost all the reports in Kuwait-Indian websites referrred to the flights as "Kuwait-Calicut" flights and a number of Keralite organizations were at the forefront organizing meetings and protesting against the AI move. Well, I haven't seen any reports of Mangalorean associations doing the same. There is a very strong possibility of this flight now changing from Kuwait-Mangalore-
Calicut to Kuwait-Calicut because of our apathy.

Come on guys. Why Kerala untochable. It is one country and same citizens. As long as the train is touching Mangalore station on both ways, there shouldn't be any worry for Mangaloreans.Let everybody taste the piece of pie.

As is always the case, I hope this service is not abruptly discontinued after it has started. If Mangalore is the final destination, so be it. But in any case, let's put our feet firm and ensure that this service IS NOT EXTENDED BEYOND MANGALORE. There are these insane greedy politicians of the neighbouring states who don't like to see any progress / development taking place with their neigbourly state. They think it is their fathers property and they can always have their say because they have influence and muscle power and dance to their tunes all the time. These type of politically-vested crooks will do ANYTHING to disrupt the services, they will stoop so low that they wouldn't mind losing their own self-prestige. In the real sense this service should be a boon for the passengers from Bombay and vice versa. One thing of paramount importance is that I hope this train doesn't run empty / there are shortage of passengers on this sector, due to lean / peak season, this service should not be touched or grouped into any other sectors under any circumstances, lest this service is also lost., case in point ... Matsayagandha Express is a classical case although it was ONLY MEANT for the Mangaloreans. This service even though being a miniscule one was snatched off by the gullible greedy insane neighbouring state . . this despite their infrastructure being far better than ours.

While Mumbai CST is the convenient station for boarding the train it would have been still better to have the destination to alight at Mangalore Junction which will be easier for all the commuters.
