Mangalore: Sacrifice of Martyrs of Freedom Remembered on 64th I - Day

Mangalore Aug 15: Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at Nehru Maidan here on Sunday August 15.
District in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar after hoisting the National Flag and receiving guard of honour at the 64th independence day celebration organized by district administration said that the sacrifice made by the past leaders to make our nation free needs to be remembered today and always. He had a word of praise for the police department that was working efficiently to safeguard the citizens and maintain peace in the district.
Stating that Mangalore city was witnessing a speedy development, Palemar said that the citizens here have access to all the facilities that will provide them a comfort living. It is noteworthy to mention here the achievements of the district in the field of education, he added.
State level winners in various sports and cultural activities were felicitated on the occasion. In the district-level march past competition, St Theresa School won the first place, and the Guides bagged the second place.
Independence Day Cup, a cricket match was the special attraction of the Independence Day.
Palemar inaugrated the match by batting first to the bowling of deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj. The cricket team comprised media team, builders' team, vice chancellor's team, deputy commissioner's team, superintendent of police's team and mayor's team.
Mangalore commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, superintendent of police Dr Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, president of Shree Devin Educational Trust Sadananda Shetty, Mangalore City Corporation mayor Rajani Dugganna, vice chancellor of Mangalore University T C Shivashankar Murthy, registrar of Mangalore University Dr K Chinnappa Gowda and deputy mayor B Rajendra Kumar among others were present.
