Sullia: Blood Donation Camp Held to Commemorate Late Kote Vasantha Kumar's Death Anniversary

Sullia, Sep 6: In loving memory of late Kote Vasantha Kumar, a leader, philanthropist, social activist, educationist, literary and known for his social work in Dakshina Kannada district and commemorate his second death anniversary, Kalanja Balila Agricultural Service Co-operative Bank, Rotary Campco, Puttur and Indian Red Cross Society organized a blood donation camp, recently. The camp was held in Dakshina Kannada District’s Higher Secondary School Kote Mundugaru.

Dr U V Shivanand, chief editor of Suddi Bidugade inaugurated the event. The organizers and local leaders such as Vishwanath Rai welcomed all.  Dr P S Govindaiah and Dr Ramachandra Bhat among others participated. Many followers of late Kote including Kalanja Balila Society directors and staff, K T Bhat Kanavu, Radhakrishna Kote, Shankara Narayana Bhat, doctors and staff of blood bank too were also present. 

Many associates of late Kote came forward and donated blood. On the occasion, Dr S Narayan Bhat of Bellare, a senior doctor who has served the medical profession for over 40 years and has won the hearts of many people was honoured.

To add more meaning to the occasion, Kote Foundation, which was established by late Kote Vasantha Kumar’s son Raghurama Kote and Girish Ramchandra announced scholarships to the deserving and meritorious students. They also announced medical sponsorships for the needy to carry forward the philanthropic activities of late Kote Vasantha Kumar.

Kote Foundation promotes socially responsible investing, through applying entrepreneurial approaches to solve the problems of global poverty. Ganapayya Kattadakorikkar, member of Kote Foundation Trust explained the purpose of the trust. Parvathi Vasantha Kumar Kote distributed the donations. Raghuram Kote and other family members were present and thanked the organizers.

"If it was not for the Kote Foundation, we couldn't have started the new unit at Ashraya Self-help Group. The new unit has helped employ more than 30 people, which in turn supports more than 100 people. The dreams have been fueled,” shared Rajendra Prasad, leader of Ashraya SHG.
