Udupi, Jul 13: Rajeshwari Shetty and her son, Navneet Shetty, who have been convicted in the murder of Bhaskar Shetty and awarded the life sentence, have filed appeal and bail application in the high court HC), seeking a stay against the judgement and also bail.
Rajeshwari filed the application on July 5, and Navneet, on July 7. The fact came to light with delay. Sources said that the applications may be heard after three weeks.
NRI entrepreneur, Bhaskar Shetty's murder five years back had given rise to sensation in the district. Udupi district chief and sessions court judge, Subrahmanya J S, who conducted the trial, had awarded life term sentences to Rajeshwari Shetty, Bhaskar Shetty's son, Navneet Shetty and astrologer, Niranjan Bhat. The judgement was delivered on June 8. Driver, Raghavendra, named as the fifth accused, was exonerated while Niranjan Bhat's father had breathed his last out of illness.
The three are currently lodged in the central jail at Parappana Agrahara Bengaluru.
