New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted intense spells of rain over the northeast, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim, Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh till August 15.
There would be a gradual increase in rainfall activity over northeast, peninsular and adjoining east-central India from August 15 even as subdued rainfall is very likely over rest of the country during next five days, a release from IMD said on Thursday.
Along with the widespread rainfall activity over the northeast and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till August 15 and reduced activity thereafter, there would be isolated extremely heavy falls also likely over Assam and Meghalaya till August 13 and over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Thursday.
In IMD parlance, heavy rain fall is recorded at 64.5 to 115.5 mm while very Heavy Rain at 115.6 to 204.4 mm, and extremely heavy rain is over 204.4 mm.
Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls is very likely to continue over east Uttar Pradesh and Bihar between August 12 and 14 and a reduction thereafter. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is very likely over Western Himalayan Region during next five days. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from August 13 till August 15.
Isolated heavy to very heavy falls are likely over Odisha during August 15 and 17 and isolated heavy falls over coastal Andhra Pradesh during August 15 and 17. Subdued rainfall very likely over rest of the country, the release said.
According to the IMD, the rainfall amount recorded from 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday till 8.30 a.m. on Thursday was Mawsynram - 27 mm; Patti - 20 mm; Buxaduar - 17 mm; Shora - 16 mm; Balrampur & William Nagar - 15 mm each; Mawkyrwat - 14 mm; Nagarkata, Diana, Baghdogra & Murti - 12 mm each; Champasari & Nongstoin - 11 mm each; Basti, Kheri, Baharaich & Cooch Behar - 10 mm each; Barabanki, Sultanpur & Pundibari - 9 mm; Agumbe, Car Nicobar & Mawphlang - 8 mm each; Mathabhanga, Gajoldoba, Gonda, Nawpara, Roing & Varanasi - 7 mm each; Karim Ganj & Baghmara - 6 mm each; Sultanpur, Pasighat, Balasore, North Lakhimpur & Car Nicobar - 6 mm each; Dharmshala & Raipur - 5 mm each; Bhagalpur, Vengurla, Thanjavur, Kottayam & Punalur - 4 mm each.
