Dr G D Joshi Bags ‘Guru Narayana Literary Award – 2010’

The metro’s veteran litterateur Dr G D Joshi was conferred with the ‘Guru Narayana Literary Award–2010’ by Billavar Association.  Dr Joshi was selected for the honour by the award committee during a meeting held under the chairmanship of Dr Vishwanath Karnad here, recently.
 
The award is intended to be conferred on a permanent resident of Maharashtra for his/her significant contributions to literature. Dr Joshi was selected for his Kannada studies, literature, and social service and popularity with reviewers and readers alike.
 
The award comprised Rs 10,000 in cash, a citation letter, and a memento. 
 
Dr Joshi was born in 1933 in Bellatti, Gadag district, Dharwad, Karnataka.  He migrated to erstwhile Bombay in 1947 and did his schooling at NKES and graduation from Ruia College, here.  He did his MA from Mumbai University and PhD from Karnataka University, Dharwad.
 
Dr Joshi began his teaching career at his former school, NKES High School, and later served as headmaster at YMNS High School.  He served as lecturer, vice-principal, and retired as principal of Ruparel College, here.
 
Dr Joshi was elected as president of Karnataka Sangh, during the election held recently.
