Sullia, Oct 6: Honouring the warrant issued by the court here relating to a five year old case in which a consumer of Mangalore Electricity Supply /Company Ltd (Mescom), who was frustrated by repeated power outages, had called the then energy minister, D K Shivakumar and allegedly used abusive words against him, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, D K Shivakumar, attended the court on Tuesday October 5 and recorded evidence in the case. He attended the court at 11.30 am and his evidence was recorded by the first division judge, Somashekhar.

Former president of Bellare Merchants Association, Giridhar Rai,had called the then power minister, Shivakumar, to talk about the electricity supply problem. The two had engaged in verbal friction then after which Shivakumar got the then in-charge assistant executive engineer of Mescom in Sullia, Harish, to file police complaint. However, Shivakumar had failed to attend the court even though summons were served thrice. A warrant seeking his presence in the court on September 29 was also not heeded. Therefore, another warrant had been issued.

Interestingly, power supply was severed when Shivakumar was answering the questions posed by the advocate. The judge commented that power supply is often interrupted in Sullia and the people would have been frustrated by this and suggested the people's representatives to forget their party affiliations and address the power supply problem prevailing here.

Shivakumar said that Giridhar used harsh words when he made the call and therefore this complaint was filed.

Shivakumar was accompanied by district Congress president K Harish Kumar, former ministers Ramanath Rai and Abhayachandra Jain, party leaders Dhananjaya Adpangaya, Mithun Rai, P V Mohan, Bharat Mundody and block Congress president P C Jayaram.

Shivakumar later visited Lord Subrahmanya temple on Tuesday and offered special puja to the Lord. He was accompanied by former MLA Shakuntala Shetty, Ramanath Rai, Mithun Rai and Abhayachandra Jain.
