Chitradurga, Jan 8: A man who was claiming to have been searching for his 'missing' wife has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing her, burying her body under a cot at home, and then misleading the locals and the police.

The incident was reported from Konanur village. The accused Narappa allegedly killed his wife Suma.

According to reports, Narappa told his in-laws that his wife Suma had gone missing since December 25. Suma’s father who came down in search of her, tried to track her at various places in the district.

Narappa himself filed a missing complaint at Bharamasagara police station. The police, who started investigation, suspected Narappa at the outset. The locals said that Narappa had brought some cement in order to lay stones at his house recently. When the cops questioned Narappa on the necessity of buying cement, he said that he stored jowar in his house, and he got the cement to cover up a hole that rodents had made.

Once he came out of the police station, Narappa switched off his phone.

Narappa's father-in-law also filed a complaint suspecting his son-in-law. He also told the police that Narappa used to harass his daughter for dowry. They were married six years ago and have one son who is five years old.

Moreover, Suma's sandals were found outside the house. In addition, Suma had spoken to neighbours on the night of December 25. Based on all these pieces of evidence, the police raided Narappa's house and unearthed Suma's body that was buried under the cot in the house.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and further investigations are on.
