Udupi: Students create chaos under alleged influence of drugs, cops intervene

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Jan 8: Chaos erupted at Padubidri here on Friday January 7 after a group of students who were allegedly under the influence of drugs got into a street fight.

Three students, including a girl, had allegedly consumed drugs and were riding on a single scooter through Padubidri town.

The scooter stopped in the middle of the road as it was empty of petrol. The students then alighted from scooter and an argument ensued.

As the argument between the students snowballed into a fight, the locals started gathering. The police also were called to the spot.

When the police tried to intervene, the students allegedly warned them of dire consequences if they tried to arrest them.

With the help of the locals, the students were shifted to a private hospital by an ambulance.

The students were natives of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, pursuing MBBS at a private college here.

If the students did it under the influence of drugs a thorough enquiry must be made Efforts must eb directed to find out as how they procured drugs . Drug menance is a serious issue in our area I feel. Unless thorough action is taken we will face many more incidence like this. Driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol is another serious issue which may cause accidents. There must be a deep look into this issue and I feel social workers in our area should work towards a solution of this problem.

This is not the way to deal with things. There's no point in shaming anyone's life without any real knowledge of what actually happened.

If they were under the influence of alcohol, they could have got an excuse, because they consumed after paying tax to the excise department and for State Govt, that is the major source. No taxes were received by the Govt of the day when Drugs where purchased. This act in public is not OK. Either way, it is wrong because it is bad conduct in public. However, Govt must also think before they set revenue target to those for whom they have issued liquor sale licenses for which they have received Crores. My favorite part: Police took help from public to get them under control - conclusion one can draw is that money made by sale of liquor did not strengthen police department.

How come drugs are easily avaliable in most of the areas of UDUPI ,and in near hostels and colleges in MANIPAL. Why no strict action taken against drug suppliers. The coastal beaches where its more of drug traffickers roaming around to catch hold of such students.
