Karkala: Lourdes Kanajar Association Emirates (LKAE) - Dubai Celebrates Tenth Anniversary

Karkala, Dec 26: It was an evening of thanksgiving, joy, fun and frolic as the Lourdes Kanajar Association-Emirates (LKAE)-Dubai celebrated tenth anniversary of the establishment of the association on Saturday December 25, the Christmas Day at 5.00 pm in the parish hall, Kanajar.

The parish priest of Kanajar, Fr Alwyn D’Cunha was the chief guest of the function. Other guests included Mabel Nazareth, vice-president of the parish pastoral council, Denis D’Souza, secretary, Deacon Br Richard Lobo and Ignatius D’Souza.

The programme began with the welcome song presented by the members of the LKAE. The achievements and contributions of the association were highlighted through a power-point presentation. The LKAE was founded on October 27, 2000 with just 14 members which has grown over the last ten years to a strong body of over a hundred dedicated members. The association has been helping a number of financially needy students to complete their education after PUC, providing financial help to the sick and supporting the projects undertaken by the parish such as renovation of the church and providing infrastructure to the Lourdes Higher primary School. 

The association had also collected and donated considerable amount of money to the hospital in Kanajar. The founder president, Stanley D’Souza, the present president Joy Prakash D’Souza and other office-bearers and members of LKAE were present for the programme.

The students who had secured highest marks in last year’s SSLC and PUC examinations as well as a sports personality and a mimicry artist were felicitated during this occasion by Stanley D’Souza by giving them roses and cash prizes. Nellu Permannur, whose comedy play “Kombyak Singa Aylyar..?” was the main attraction of the evening was honoured by Fr Alwyn D’Cunha by presenting him a bouquet.

In his address, Fr Alwyn D’Cunha congratulated the office-bearers and members of LKAE on the occasion of the decennial celebrations and pointed out how this association has been in the forefront in supporting various causes right from the education of the needy students to the developmental work in the church and the school. He expressed his gratitude for all the good work that the association has been doing for the promotion of education and other social activities in Kanajar.

Stanley D’Souza, the founder president of the  LKAE proposed the vote of thanks and appreciated the inspiration and guidance given to the association by Fr Alwyn D’Cunha since he took charge of the parish since 2004 and had developed the parish with hard work and dedication.

The children of the LKAE members presented a song in the Arabic language. The audience who had filled the capacity of the hall were treated to Christmas ‘Kuswar’ and ice-cream sponsored by the LKAE. The youth of the parish and the members of LKAE presented three hilarious skits which entertained the audience.

The chief attraction of the evening was the comedy play “Kombyak Singa Aylyar..?”written and directed by Nellu Permannur which was also sponsored by LKAE. On the whole the decennial programme of LKAE added fun and frolic to the Christmas spirit.
