Panaji, Mar 15: Goa is experiencing high mercury since Sunday. The temperature is hovering at 37.8 deg C which is around six degrees above the normal temperature during this time of the year.
In a statement, Rahul M, scientist at IMD Panaji said that parts of Konkan and Goa have been experiencing heat wave conditions since Monday. Yellow warning is also issued by the India Meteorological department.
In 2013 the mercury soared high on March 4 to 6 and in 1984 in the last five decades. In addition humidity is also on the rise and temperature above 35 degrees is recorded regularly.
The scientist said that the heat wave experienced at present is mild and may not last for long. Panaji recorded a minimum temperature of 23.3 degrees on Monday.
Mercury is likely to remain four degrees above normal value for the same season due to advection of warmer temperature. However, the mercury may fall by two degrees by March 15.
IMD has asked the public to wear light coloured and loose cotton clothes and cover their head with cloth, umbrella or hat, drink lots of water and take breaks during work.
