Mangaluru, Jul 20: " There is no surprise that if the BJP-led union government enforces Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the coffin box," said former district JD(S) president Mohammed Kunhi.

He was addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, July 20.

"The GST hike on essential commodities like milk and other dairy products will ruin the life of the common man. If this situation continues, even our country will face a crisis like Sri Lanka," he said.

“People voted for BJP expecting a change but nothing has taken place. MLA Vedavyas Kamath is giving the statement that by 2025 he will make Mangaluru as a model city. What has he done in the last four years? What is the contribution of the BJP MLAs in the district?” he wondered.

He also alleged that representatives are receiving commissions from the contractors. There is misappropriation of funds in the works of the Smart City project. Representatives are receiving hefty amounts as commission from the contractors.

He also alleged that the MLA of Belthangady who stated he does not want the votes of Muslims now wants contracts of various work be given to the Muslims. The same thing is happening in other constituencies too, he added.

Kunhi also said that in the coming days JD(S) with like-minded political parties and other organisation will hold a massive protest in the district against the BJP government.

The party which came to power on making the society a corruption-free one is now sunk itself in corruption, he alleged.

Former corporator Rameeza Nasir alleged that the Bunder ward is completely being neglected without development works. People are facing several problems in the ward without proper storm water drains.

JD(S) leaders Vasanth Poojary and Sushil Norohana also pointed out various lapses of the BJP-led government in the state and the city.

Naseer, Munir Mukacheri, Praveen Jain and others were present.

GST hikes and target products are decided by the GST council . Nirmal Sitaraman chairs the meeting but the decision is jointly taken by the Finace ministers of all states or their representatives. It is rich for the Congress and others to agitate about GST when they pretend not to know the rationale or people behind the GST hike.

GST council is only a advisory body The meeting was virtual not in person Only recommendation given and now the whole meeting has certain flaws as informed So basically shifting blame to council Govt of the day is the one solely responsible for implementation and can reject if need be proposals ... Als many gst dues not paid to States or not paid on time .. Cess collected is outside States share .. This has been cleverly introduced CESS ..
