Mangaluru: Senior drama artiste, journalist Rathnakar Rao Kavoor passes away

Mangaluru, Jul 22: Senior drama artiste, director, and editor of Vajranetra publication, Rathnakar Rao Kavoor (81) passed away due to illness on Thursday July 22 at his residence.

He had written dramas in various genres. He used to draw the attention of the government by writing articles on social problems in his Kannada publication Vajranethra.

Kala Rathna Rathnakar Rao had written over 100 dramas in Kannada and Tulu languages including 'Amma Kateelamma', 'Thaburana Telike', 'Hasooru Hennu', 'Mahathma, Samrat Sankanne', 'Sri Guru Raghavendra', 'Naladamayanthi', 'Amara Rani Abbakka', 'Kanakana Krishna', 'Kathi Pathi Kalyanappe', 'Prachanda Parshurama', 'Swami Sharanam Ayyappa', 'Rastra Veera Rana Prathapa', 'Bhoothala Pandya', 'Minister Mundappane', 'Yame Telipuve', 'Abbarada Adhishakthi', 'Karnikada Koti Chennayye', 'Tulunada Siri Nagabhrame', 'Mahaveera Maruthi' and 'Ponna Manas Bangar'.

He had also written the novels ‘Police Pathni’ and ‘Kempu Hennu’.

He also acted in movies 'Nyayogu Enna Baduku' and 'Bangar Patler'. Recently, he also won the Tulu Sahitya Academy award.

He is survived by wife Jayanthi Rao K, children Dr Sumangala Rao, journalist Rajan Kumar, advocate Shashiraj Kavoor and other relatives.
