Mangalore: Fr Muller Cardiac Surgeons Grant New Lease of Life to 54-yr-old

Media Release

Mangalore, Apr 8: A team of doctors from Fr Muller Medical College Hospital have granted a new
lease of life to a 54-year-old old agriculturist hailing from Mulky by performing a very complicated life saving surgery which is very rare in the history of medical field as informed by hospital administrator Fr Richard Coelho.

The patient (farmer) ailing from cardiac disorders was admitted to the ICU on April 1 in a very critical condition with acute chest pain and physical weakness and was referred to chief interventional cardiologist Dr H Prabhakar.

On thorough investigation and detailed clinical examination Prabhakar detected aorta which is the main blood vessel which supplies the pure blood to the body is dissected and heavy leakage of blood in the aortic valve, resulting in blockage of blood circulation to the vital organs of the body which warranted
emergency surgery to save the life of the patient. Instantly a team of dedicated expert doctors was formed and they swung into action deciding to perform a very risky innovative surgery.

The surgery was performed by removing the damaged and ruptured parts and by replacing them with the aortic valve and the aortic tube graft, thereby restoring the regular blood supply to the whole body. The entire surgery lasted for four hours which was performed by a team of cardiac surgeons comprising chief caridiac surgeon Dr A G Jayakrishnan, Dr K T Anand, cardiologists Dr Sayyed K, Dr Usha Rao and
cardiac anaesthetist Dr Chetana Anand.

The patient is responding to the surgery and is recovering very speedily. He will likely be discharged within 2 days, states the release from the hospital.

The director of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions Fr Patric Rodrigues congratulated the team of doctors on their unique achievement and for saving the life of the patient.

    Great job, Fr. Mullers Cardiac
surgeons. So much of medical advancement right within our neighbourhood. Late Dr. Lorsab must be watching all of you from above and admiring the progress accomplished.

It is nice to see the pictures of all the Cardiac staff took part in the surgery process. Our only humble suggestion is, if possible, avoid display of a photograph of the patient on the hospital bed appearing with his closed eyes during the early stage of his ailment. In many countries the patient may have to give written permission, otherwise the hospital could be subjected to all kinds of legal claims. This is just an observation, please.

Congrats to Dr. Prabhakar who is very much in the news. He has enhanced the name and fame of Father Muller's Hospital. Father Augustine Muller's dream comes alive with each surgery like the one performed by Prabhakar.

The mustard seed planted by Father Muller has now grown into a mighty tree and the tiny venture which he started over one hundred and thirty years ago has grown in every way.

The present team of dedicated priests under the leadership of Father Patrick Rodrigues is working hard to ensure that all possible health care is rendered to all irrespective of caste and creed. Of course Father Patrick has an excellent force to support the cause for which FMCI stands for . There is Father Denis D'Sa on the teaching side. Father Richard Coelho on the side of The Hospital and there is Father Vincent Saldanha a person for all seasons.

Of course the Homeopathy Medical College and Hospital has made rapid strides in every direction - thanks to Father Prakash DSouza the able administrator.

I have the privilege of being associated with Father Muller's Institutions for a long time and my good wishes are and will always be with this great PEOPLE'S CARE ORGANIZATION.
