Udupi, Aug 8: The St Mary’s English Medium School celebrated the English language week in the first week of August. The goal of the various activities was to enhance the speaking, reading, writing and listening skills of the students.
Various activities like Handwriting competition, Poem Recitation, Word building, Pick and speak, Word grid, composing a poem, song related to the Parts of the Speech, Advertisements, Essay writing and Elocution were conducted for students from Grade 1 to Grade 12. Students actively participated and showcased their creativity. All these activities were judged by teachers of different grades.
The English week finale was held on August 6, 2022 in St Mary’s Auditorium. Sweeta Rego welcomed principal Fr Johnson Sequeira, guest of honour Eunice Anchan, vice principal Rita Quadros on this occasion. She also gave a brief introduction of the chief guest. Shivani of grade 7 gave a brief speech on the importance of the English language in students’ life.
Thereafter, chief guest Eunice Anchan addressed the audience. She also emphasized on the importance of the English language and also gave the students tips on how to improve their language skills such as learning ten new words on a daily basis and making every effort to converse in English with family and friends. There were demonstrations of various English language activities such as reciting the poem, a song on Pronoun. Grade10 advertised their saree collection with a brand name of Sabyasachi Sarees. A skit on a classic fairy tale story of Cinderella was enacted by students of higher primary sections. After the play, Principal addressed the students and staff and highlighted the importance of developing the habit of reading, to improve the language.
Linet announced the names of the prize winners of various activities held during the English Language week. The programme concluded with the Vote of thanks which was delivered by Manjula Blazo. The MC of the programme was Leon Mathias of Grade 10.
