Bhatkal: Jamia Islamia Honoured on Second Day of Educational Convention

Bhatkal, Mar 20: The second day of the international educational convention hosted by Jamia Islamia, here on Monday March 19 witnessed a number of intellectual discussions on education especially concerning Muslims and Madrasa education.
A special memento was presented to Ali Malpa, Jamia Islamia Bhatkal's founder, by the Muslim World League, Makkah on the occasion.
The Muslim World League, founded in 1962, is one of the world's largest Muslim non-governmental organizations with representation from 22 countries, with its headquarters in Makkah. The memento was presented by Dr Fawaz Bin Abdulaziz Al-Sulami, director of Dawah, Education and Haj Affairs, Muslim World League, and secretariat– Makkah.
The accolade confirms Jamia Islamia's status as a leading center of educational excellence with contributions in Islamic research and endowments.
Speaking during the occasion Roshan Baig, a leading Muslim politician who is also a member of the legislative assembly said, “If Bhatkal community has to prosper, it needs to make efforts to educate and empower women”.
He added, "The political representation of Bhatkal has taken a backseat after the death of S M Yahya. Bhatkal needs leaders who can represent the community at the state level and the legislative assembly".
Maulana Syed Mohammed Rabe Hasani, president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board said that some of the proposed educational laws in the country would have an adverse effect the on growth of Madrasas and on Islamic education. He called upon the community to be aware of the threat to religious education.
Maulana Mohammed Salman Hasani Nadvi of Nadwatul Ulema, Lucknow, said that Islam is a religion of peace and has always taught the values of brotherhood and harmony through Madrasa education.
More than 5000 people were present.
