Vijayapura, Jun 25: Four young boys lost their lives due to drowning in pits filled with water on Saturday June 24.

Two among them died at Tonashyala village in this taluk when making an effort to pick a tyre that was floating in standing water in the pit. They were Darshan (11) and Laxman (9), children of Shivappa Poojary currently stationed at the rehabilitation centre at Tonashyala village.

It is gathered that Darshan was trying to pick up a tyre that was floating in water when he slipped and began to drown. Laxman rushed to his rescue but both drowned in the pit. A case about the tragedy was registered at Babaleshwara police station in the district.

In the other incident, two boys who went near a pit formed near a hillock adjacent to LBS Nagar in Raichur for swimming drowned. Water had accumulated in a pit formed by the abandoned stone quarry there. Mehaboob (9) and Sahil (9), both residents of Ashraya Colony, who perhaps wrongly guessed the depth of standing water, drowned. The boys, who resided at old Ashraya Colony here were third standard students. A report about the incident was filed at Market Yard police station, Raichur.
