Kundapur, Mar 1: In an incident that occurred on the night of Thursday, February 28, a lady who was living alone in a tiled house at Kat Beltur near Hemmady of the taluk, was found dead under mysterious circumstances.

Gulabi (55), wife of late Nagesh, a resident of Kat Beltur is the deceased lady. Nagesh, who was doing hotel business, died five years ago. Post his death, Gulabi was selling fish for a living. The couple has two boys. The elder one is married and settled in Mumbai and the younger one is at Bengaluru.

A nearby resident Shivarama bought fish from the deceased Gulabi on the morning of Thursday and asked for more fish for Friday, March 1. However, as Gulabi did not turn up on the morning of Friday, March 1, Shivarama arrived at her residence and knocked on the door at around 10.30 am. As the door was not locked, it got opened due to the knocking by Shivarama. When he peeped inside, Gulabi was lying on her bed in sleeping position. As she did not respond even after repeated calls, Shivarama who got suspicious informed the matter to younger sister of Gulabi, who resides nearby and subsequently they informed the police.

Gulabi was hale and hearty till the evening of Thursday. Though she is found dead in the sleeping position, the locals are saying that her gold chain weighing four and a half sovereign, which she used to wear daily, is missing from her neck. This has led to some suspicion that she might have been murdered. In addition, locals also said that there was ash of cigarette inside the house. It is also said that the police have got the clue of someone arriving to her house on the evening of Thursday.

Kundapur rural police have registered a case in this regard. DySP Dinesh Kumar, circle inspector Manjappa and Kundpaur station SI Harish have visited the spot and conducted spot inspection. Forensic experts also arrived at the home of Gulabi and took necessary evidence. The body of Gulabi is sent to Manipal for post mortem.

By the photograph of Gulabi's house, it is understood she is staying in a individual compound. In such situation, if she has kept a dog, at least it could have saved Gulabi and given some courage to face the robber. Now all over.
May her soul rest in peace.
