Mangaluru: Now, Muslim body wants Surathkal Circle to be renamed after Koti Channaiah, not Savarkar

Mangaluru, Oct 9: Muslim Aikyata Vedike has appealed to BJP MLA Bharath Shetty, representing Mangaluru North, to rename Surathkal Circle after Koti Channaiah.

The Surathkal Circle was recently renamed as Veer Savarkar Circle to which Muslims have taken objection.

The Muslim body has also submitted an appeal to the commissioner Mangaluru City Corporation and the mayor of the city in this regard.

The body has also proposed the names of Srinivasa Mallya and M Lokaiah Shetty to rename the circle after.

Currently, MLA Bharath Shetty's proposal to rename Surathkal Circle after Veer Savarkar has been passed in the MCC council. The MCC has come forward to accept suggestions and public objections pertaining to the renaming of Surathkal Circle.

The Muslim body has surprisingly not proposed any names from their community. In its appeal, the Muslim body said by renaming a circle after a controversial name the communal harmony of the place would be harmed.

    Before naming the junction, make the road proper. I dont know how many people know this but vehicles coming for the side of bus stand near sadanand come from wrong way. Like this is the state of our roads. Only in a country with stupid people can we find people more worried are the naming a circle than the actual safety.

    Surathkal circle is SURATHKAL CIRCLE WHY YOU WANT TO CHANGE IT WHAT BENEFITS BY CHANGING THE NAME TO THE PUBLIC AGAIN CREATE SOME PROBLEM S AT SURATHKAL?

    The elected representatives appear to be interested in maintaining disharmony among different sections of the society by putting up the proposal to name Suratkal Junction after a person who is not acceptable to all the sections due to disputes associated with his role in freedom movement.
