Bantwal, Oct 10: “The agricultural land of farmers here is being ruined for transmission of electricity to other states,” said Karnataka state Raitha Sangha Hasiru Sene district president Sridhar Shetty.

He was speaking after setting in motion an awareness campaign held under the leadership of 400 kv Vidyut Prasarana Virodhi Horata Samithi at Kollapadavu, near Vittal here.

Rajiv Gowda of the Vittal Samithi said that the campaign against transmission lines has been in progress since the last fifteen months. “There are efforts to snatch livelihoods. It is necessary for farmers to answer properly in the next elections,” he said.

Raitha sangha state secretary Manohar Shetty, farmers Lakshman Nekki, Chittaranjan N S D, Sundara Gowda, Bhasker Manjaladi, Sridhar Boligade and others were present.

The team of Vittal Horata Samithi visited the people at Kollapadavu, Kepu, Vittal, Mangilapadav and Balthila and explained the problems that will come up due to the electricity transmission.
