Mangaluru, Oct 11: " Be prompt and punctual, on time, when you visit the Elders whom you have volunteered to care because the elders are disciplined and will wait for You " said Dr Lavina Noronha, director Ave Maria Palliative care centre who delivered an insightful practical talk, initiating the volunteering students from various institutions.

" Each One..Reach One" is an elders care programme where a volunteer student will visit a needy elder twice a month and inquire on them on phone twice a month. A great helpful service to our elders were our students too will be sensitized in the need and care of our suffering elders.

Dr Rameela Shekar, former dean, Roshni Nilaya, coordinated the whole effort , taking off from her motivating speech on World ALlzhemiers day at Town hall.

Student volunteers from AJ medical college , Aloysius college, Yenepoya medical college and nursing college, SDM business management college, Roshni Nilaya, St Agnes College and other colleges participated with enthusiasm.

Dr Kishore Kumar, district health officer shared his insights and offered all support from the government health department. His presence added extra energy to this landmark initiative in making Mangaluru dementia friendly.

Lidwin Lobo, the renowned social worker shared her insights along with Mohanraj, CEO of Bright Globe pvt Ltd.

Jerardin D'souza, founder director- MAA Mangaluru Alzheimers Association was very enthusiastic in seeing this initiative where the suffering elders and dementia affected people can find support from the youth force, which will go a long way in sensitizing our youth.

Dr Prabha Adhikari, head, Geriatrics, Yenepoya Medical College, opened with insight remarks and introducing all involved and the roles each one will play.

The students were very attentive and taking notes of Dr Lavinia Noronha's insightful talk.

Great enthusiasm of both the students and the organizers was contagious. After the insightful motivating talk everyone posed for a cheerful group picture.

The initiative is going to have a deep impact and will ho a ling way in making our Mangaluru more dementia friendly.
