Mangalore: Amma's Devotees Launch Clean City Campaign

Mangalore, May 3: As many as hundred followers of Mata Amritanandamayi participated in the ’Clean Mangalore’ campaign which was launched on Tuesday May 3. The campaign was conducted as part of Matha Amritanandamayi’s dream project ‘Amala Bharatam’.

The aim of the campaign is to eradicate mosquito breeding in various places of the city and also to maintain a clean environment. All enthusiastically participated in this cleanness drive. Amma, on her two-day visit to the city had initiated the cleanliness drive in association with the district administration to make the city clean.

At the Satsang, Bhajana programme held at Amritha Vidyala in Bolur on Sunday May 1, she had distributed handkerchiefs and book marks with the theme of ‘cleanliness’ to the students of Amrita Vidyalayam and had stressed the importance of maintaining cleanness. She had said "we all have the responsibility of handing over the nature to the next generation."

Mayor Praveen, health officers Manjayya Shetty,  Basavraj, corporator Naveen and former mayor Ganesh Hosabettu among others were present.

    This is setting an example for all of us to follow. If each one of us can mobilise a group of individuals to clean up, the world would be a better place and the politicians will come under pressure too evetually.

    When the resident of the city
    feel a collective spirit and
    attitude that they should keep
    the city clean, and when everybody
    sacrifice a little bit of energy
    and time we can turn the city as
    a beautiful place for all.

    As Mr. Austin Santhosh, Bahrain
    has indicated, the public has a
    bad notion about the cleaning
    responsibility of the public
    places. If we expect the government to keep the city clean,
    it will never be materialized.

    Great Job Amma. Please kindly fire a particular driver of your Amritha Vidyalaya School bus who eats gutka and spits out while driving. Isn't it bad news for you. Then there is a devotee of yours who lives in vicinity of our residence who throws shopping bag full of garbage at the street end. This is a good cause programme without end in sight.

    Just recently same show was done and now the city looks the same as before with piles of trash everywhere. How many of your devotees threw plastic bottles and food wrapers after your programme while going home. Only solution is fine for littering the streets, like they do in western countries.
    There is a property belong to present Congress Minister situated next to my property which looks like Moodushedde dump inside the city. Mosqitoes are breeding in millions. This property is like fatherless child.
    Health officer Manjayya Shetty is always there for photo session of media. I have complaints with MCC Health office many times and till this minute nothing is done. Even M.V. Shetty School Bus drivers and conductors are using this property for urinating. What a wonderful City that won prize being Clean City recently. Judges must have been blind folded.

    It is the duty of the merchants to keep their surroundings clean where they earn their daily bread.Garbage if put in the particular designated places twice a day will automatically make the enviornment clean.It is the responsibility of each and every petty business men and women to clean after their each days business or they should be FINED HEAVILY.

    Unfortunately, we think that every thing has to be done by our leaders and Governments. We clean our house and our compound. But when we step into the public places, we expect some one to do cleaning job. Believe me, most of us (Mangaloreans) feel that cleaning a public place does not suite our status. Good work by Amma's Devotees. They are the blessed ones.

    Municipality should repair the drains and keep them fit for the purpose. And regular such cleaning campaign will surely keep Mangalore clean. Garbage bins and frequent clearing of the bins will eliminate mosquito to large extent.
