Karuna Gifts Rs 3 cr to WC Winning Indian Team


Chennai, May 5 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today presented Rs three crore to the World Cup-winning Indian cricket team, besides awarding Rs one crore to off-spinner R Ashwin, who hails from the state.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina, both of whom play for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, were awarded their share of Rs 21.42 lakh by Karunanidhi at a function here which was attened among others by Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin.

Karunanidhi also presented cheques due for other members of the team to BCCI secretary N Srinivasan, an official release here said.

The Chief Minister lauded the cricketers for their historic feat which came after 28 years when Kapil Dev's men had defeated the West Indies in 1983.
