Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, May 6: Gold and diamond ornaments worth about Rs 4.5 lac were found missing from the house of Madhavaraya Pai in Kodialbail (west) in the city on Thursday May 5. At the same time, a woman named Mamata, a native of Shimoga district,  who had recently been hired by the family, also disappeared.

Mamata, who had joined for work on May 1 to assist in household chores, had left Pai’s home on Wednesday evening, telling the family members that she would return soon, after visiting a friend near T M A Pai International Convention Centre. As she did not come back thereafter, the family grew suspicious. Srimati Pai, mother of Madhavaraya Pai, felt on Thursday that the door of a cupboard had been moved. During verification, she found that gold ornaments worth three lac rupees and diamond ornaments worth about Rs 1. 5 lac had gone missing. It is suspected that Mamata has stolen them. A complaint was filed in this connection at Barke police station on Thursday.

Mamata had been hired to take care of Srimati Pai (76), mother of Madhavaraya Pai, on Sunday. The policemen have registered a complaint, and taken up investigation.
