Mangaluru: B G M birth centenary celebration to be held from October 28- 30

Mangaluru, Oct 26: B G Mohammed would have completed 102 years, if allive and inorder to commemorate him and his achievements, and his contribution to the society, a centenary celebration has been organised at Kudmul Ranga Rao auditorium, Town Hall from October 28 to 30. B G Mohammed, born at Bolar, Mangaluru, in 1920, after his primary education moved to Udupi and studied art in gurukula style and worked in two studios at Mangaluru to learn about photography. He began his art career at Sharada Press, had to leave it due to some difference of opinion with the proprietor.

His three colleagues Jerald Fernandes, Herald Lasrado, and Ramesh prompted him to teach art. Thus began the BGM Fine Arts in 1953 and had to move to a nearby building to accommodate more number of students. He had a variety of students, young and old, professionals, home makers, retired persons, physically challenged persons and have now spread across the globe.

If alive, B G Mohammed would have completed 102 years and the centenary celebration is planned to commemorate him, and his achievements, and his contribution to the society. The honorary president B Ganesha Somayaji, vice president prof Ananthapadmanabha Rao, secretary Dr S M Shivaprakash under the leadership of Koti Prasad Alva Director, Prasad Art Gallery, and present president of Karavali Chitrakala Chavadi along with Asha Rao Aroor, Naveena Rai and, MLC Bharathi Shitty, Rajesh N, Kamal, Eddie Sequeira, all students of B G Mohammed, have formed, an organizing committee, headed by Dr M Mohana Alva of Moodabidri, and chalked out an ambitious centenary celebration from October 28-30 at Town Hall.
