Kundapur, Nov 4: The Karnataka State Government Employees' Association has submitted an appeal to minister Kota Srinivas Poojary to cancel NPS, the new pension scheme and pass the previous pension scheme in the state.

The new pension scheme for the newly recruited staff from the year 2006 is based on share market and causes problems after the retirement. The employees have lost between Rs 50,000 and Rs 80,000 during the blow to the share market due to Covid. The association has campaigned against it at Freedom park.

Out of a total of 7,41,048 employees in the state, 4,12,521 are under the old pension scheme and 4,28,427 are under the new pension scheme. The union government has not made the new pension scheme mandatory. Discriminating between workers employed in the office regarding salary and pension scheme is against the constitution. Cancellation of the new scheme will help the government to come out of financial problems, they stated.

The minister, who read the request, has assured of sincere efforts towards the demand. The association's Udupi district unit president Raghava Shetty, district secretary Ramachandra Vakuda, Kundapur taluk unit president Harish Kumar Shetty, committee members Raghavendra M and various department employees were present.
