Udupi: Retired teacher, state awardee William D'Sa is no more

Udupi, Nov 6: William D’Sa, well known as Willi Mam or as Willi Master from Moodubelle is no more. He breathed his last breath on November 4 evening at 4 pm at his residence due to cardiac arrest.

Willi Master was born on March 3, 1938. He was the son of Late Kaithano D’Sa and Late Remidia D’Sa.

He is survived by his wife Rita D’Sa, children Mark, Sunil and Prema, daughter-in-laws Reema and Sunita, son-in-law Vijay and grandchildren Neil, Sonia, Olivia, Sherwin, Steesha and Nicholas.

Willie Master, himself an orthopedically challenged person, was a teacher in the church aided higher primary school at Moodubelle for 34 years and Lourdes Higher Primary School in Kanajar for six years till his retirement in 1996.

On the occasion of the observation of the World Day of Disabled Persons on December 3, 2009, William D’Sa was honoured by the Government of Karnataka’s Department of Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens with the Rajya Prashasthi-2009 for his contribution in inspiring and educating the physically challenged students, Malini Bhandary of Kanajar, Uddhaya Hansa and many more. Willie Master is one of the 26 persons and six institutions who were conferred with this award in a function inaugurated by the then chief minister B S Yediyurappa.

Recognizing the service rendered by Willie Master to the betterment of the disabled students, the government of Karnataka honoured him with a shawl, garland, fruit basket, citation and a trophy. Willie Master acknowledging the honour conferred on him had said that it was due to the exposure that he got about his work in the Daijiwworld.com and the Daijiworld Weekly that his contribution came to the notice of the state Department of Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens which considered him for the honour of the Rajya Prashasthi-2009.

William will be remembered as an encouraging and selfless man and friend to all. He shared his interests in music, sports, and the church . As an inaugural member of the Moodubelle Lions Club, he exemplified what it means to be a leader in the community.
