Udupi, Nov 11: The works created by Kanakadasa and the messages given by him convey the message of equality and co-existence in human society,” said Veena B N, deputy commissioner.

Speaking at the Kanakadasa and Onake Obavva Jayanti programme held in collaboration with the district administration, zilla panchayat and department of Kannada and Culture in DC office Manipal she said, ”Kanakadasa has said that all are equal irrespective of any caste, creed and clan. Through the message in his poems, he has said that God is always on the side of the poor through Rama Dhyana Charita. It is not important that a person reaches his goal, the path used to reach it should be good, Kanakadasa's messages are a beacon to walk on such a good path. Udupi and Kanakadasa have an inseparable relationship and everyone knows the importance of his devotion to Sri Krishna and the importance of Kanaka's kindi in Sri Krishna Math."

She said that Onake Obavva, who is a symbol of women empowerment, protected her fort by protecting stree Dharma and motherly feeling, has showed the world about patience, courage, bravery and strength of women.

Prasanna H, zilla panchayat chief executive officer paid floral tributes to the portrait of Shri Kanakadasa and Onake Obavva.

Dr Katyayini Kunjibettu, gave a special lecture in the programme and said that, ”Kanakadasa, who was a poet, philosopher, and a devotional saint, gave messages to mankind through his sermons, kirtanas and poems that are still relevant today. He tried to correct the evils in the society.

Kempe Gowda, joint director Agriculture Department, Shivakumar, deputy director Fisheries Department, Halumatha G Gode, state committee organizing secretary of Hanumanta Mahasabha Siddabasaiah Swami Chikkamath, president Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Sangolli Rayanna Fan Club and others were present.
