Hassan, May 22 (Express Buzz): Chandramma, a native of Rangenahalli village of Arasikere taluk, gave birth to a baby at the age of 60 years.

The doctors at Chamarajendra Government Hospital in Hassan said that both the mother and the infant were healthy. Chandramma is the first woman in recent years to deliver at the age of 60, doctors said.

According to gynecologist Dr Suneeta, women lose fertility in their 40s.

"Chances are very low for women to give birth after they reach their 50," she informed and added that Chandramma has surprised doctors and her case was a challenge for the field of medical science.

Interestingly, Chandramma, an illiterate, has two other children: Gangadhara (12) and Parvati (14). Her husband Rangaswamy (50) a farmer, reportedly went to his native place after admitting his wife to the hospital on Thursday.

Chandramma's mother, who is 80yearold, is taking care of her daughter and grand daughter.
