Udupi, May 23: Ravindra Shetty (33), member of Katapadi gram panchayat and PWD contractor, breathed his last in an accident that occurred near Balayipade in Udyavar near here on the night of Saturday May 21. Shetty was residing near the Enagudde forest gate in Katapadi.

Ravindra had married seven months back. He is survived by wife, mother, and an elder bother. He was a friendly person and was very popular among social circles because of his social service initiatives.

Shetty had been elected as the member of Katapadi gram panchayat twice with Congress support. The accident occurred when a truck went wayward after its axle broke down, and hit Maruti Swift car Shetty was driving towards Udupi. He was alone in the car at the time, as he was returning after dropping off his pregnant wife and mother at Nagamandalotsava being held at Enagudde Goddess Durgaparameshwari Temple. He had miraculously escaped in an accident that occurred at the same spot about a year back.
