Bangalore, May 23: A Ajay, son of state home minister, R Ashok, reportedly manhandled a traffic police sub-inspector who was trying to enforce law, on the evening of Saturday May 21. The incident occurred at Haines Road junction in Frazer Town here.
The police said that a car in which Ajay and his four friends were travelling, hit a motor bike at the said junction. As soon as the bike rider fell down, the occupants of the car assaulted him, accusing him of careless driving. The people, who were watching the developments, stopped the gang of youth from assaulting the bike rider. When traffic police sub-inspector, Gopalakrishna, rushed there to sort out the issue, the people there demanded action against those in the car.
Ajay, angered by the demand of the sub-inspector to accompany the latter to Shivajinagar police station, hit him and pushed him around. He then told the police that he was the son of the home minister, and warned the police of adverse consequences. At that time, a police vehicle arrived, and took the youth to the police station, it is learnt.
Sources said that the police, apparently under pressure from certain quarters, released the youth and his friends without any action. City police commissioner, Jyotiprakash Mirji, dismissed the incident as minor one, although he acknowledged that home minister’s son was involved with the incident. He hastened to add that no policemen were hit in the incident.
