Mangaluru, Jan 13: Many leaders have condemned the negligence shown by district administration and state government by not paying due respects to renowned writer Sarah Aboobacker during her death and funeral.

In a joint statement, leaders, writers and social workers said, “During a time, when Muslim community was far away from the Kannada literature, a girl from the community enters the Kannada literary field and writes stories about the girls of the Muslim community. This is a huge achievement. The revolt and atrocities Sarah Aboobacker faced because of her writings is not trivial. She involved herself in pro-women protests also. When Sara Aboobacker died she should have naturally got government honour.”

The leaders, writers and social workers who condemned the negligence of government and district administration include B M Rohini, Prof Narendra Nayak, T R Bhat, Chandrakala Nandavara, Prof Chandra Poojary, Prof Pattabirama Somayaji, M Devadas, B M Haneef, Vasudeva Ucchila, Dr B Srinivasa Kakkillaya, Gulabi Bilimale, Prof K Rajendra Udupa, Mohan P V, I K Boluvaru, Yashawanth Maroli, Munir Katipalla, Dr Krishnappa Konchady and Srinivasa Karkala.
