Mangalore, May 31: District Congress leaders on Tuesday May 31 ridiculed chief minister B S Yeddyurappa for undertaking 2,60,000 km of travel and attending as many as 1,750 programmes in three years, apart from levelling several other charges against the ruling government.
At a joint press meet held on Tuesday May 31, MLA U T Khader, Moodbidri MLA and chief whip of the opposition in the state legislative assembly Abhayachandra Jain and KPCC secretary Ivan D’Souza stated the completion of three years of BJP government as bogus.
Ivan D’Souza listed 7 ‘developmental’ works of BJP namely, conversion of minority government into majority by taking the help of Reddy brothers, acquirement of JD(S) and Congress MLAs, large-scale corruption, continuing in power amidst serious allegations, waste of tax money by donating to temples and practicing vote bank politics, facing embarrassment from Supreme Court after disqualifying 16 MLA against constitutional provisions, and distribution of Rs 400 crore, which was reserved for organic farming, to BJP activists and Sangha Parivar.
Abhayachandra Jain said that looting the government treasury was the only achievement of the BJP-led government in state. He noted that in three years none of the rural roads had been repaired. Poor and middle-class students, who could get into medical and engineering college with ease and comfort during Veerappa Moily government, are now in a dilemma because of the mess in CET counseling, he said, and added that the ‘system’ that prevailed in education sector has collapsed.
In a sarcastic remark, Jain said that the achievement of CM Yeddyurappa is traveling in helicopters and added that Anna Hazare should have initiated his anti-corruption campaign from Karnataka.
He also said that under the Five Year Plan, Congress had undertaken development workd step by step.
He condemned Yeddyurappa's practice of staying in five star hotels while on tour though there are circuit houses in the state. He criticized the CM for not solving the SEZ mess. Abhayachandra Jain also said that ever since Mangalore-Madikeri bus was diverted from the direct route six months ago KSRTC had incurred a loss of Rs 3 crore.
MLA U T Khader in his remark said that Yeddyurappa had retained his power only through advertising and that was his only achievement. He pointed out that not a single high school and college had been opened in the state. Gram panchayats have not been able to dig even a single borewell, and price of sand which was Rs 1,000 has gone up to Rs 5,000. Synthetic track work in Mangala stadium has stopped. All these prove that the BJP is an anti-people government, he said.
He also said that Anna Hazare should not have doubted PM Manmohan Singh. Instead he should have started his campaign in Karnataka as Yeddyurappa is one of the most corrupt CMs in the country. He called upon the people to take note of all the happenings in the state and to give their answer at the right time.
