Puttur: Persons Trying to Sell Leopard Pelt Arrested

Puttur, Jun 17: Sub-inspector of the forest mobile squad here, Subbanna Naik, and other personnel of his squad, raided a house in Murdeshwar in Uttara Kannada district on Thursday June 16, and seized a leopard pelt from the possession of the residents of the house.

Shantaram Naik and Chandrashekhar Naik, who were allegedly trying to market the pelt illegally, were arrested from the spot.

Both the accused are residents of Murdeshwar area, it is learnt. The pelt seized from them is estimated to fetch about two lac rupees in the market. The case has been handed over to Murdeshwar police station for further investigation.

The raid was conducted under instructions from the superintendent of police of state forest mobile squad, stationed at Madikeri.
