Mangalore: MPLADS Funds – DC Contradicts Congress Leader Claim

Mangalore, Jun 23: The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district has contradicted the figures furnished by Beltangady Block Congress Committee president, Harish Kumar, relating to the zero utilization of funds by Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, under Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), in a press conference on June 21, were incorrect.

Harish Kumar had stated that Nalin Kumar Kateel had left the entire Rs 3.61 crore allotted by the union
government under the said scheme unutilized. The DC said that the office of the deputy commissioner had received a total sum of Rs 3.6 crore till now under the scheme and that the MP had submitted 110 proposals worth Rs 2 crores for 2009-10, and 52 proposals valued at Rs 1 crore to his office. Out of this, sanction has been given to 127 works worth Rs  2.35 crore, and Rs 1.59 crore has already been released to the respective implementing officers. Most of these works have been completed, while the others are in progress, he added.

The report of the DC was released by district BJP affairs in-charge, Pratapsimha Nayak, in a press
conference held here on Wednesday June 22.
