Mangaluru, Apr 1: Four people of a family were found dead at a lodge in the city on March 31.
The deceased are identified as Devendra (48), his wife Nirmala (45), their twin daughters Chaithra (9) and Chitanya (9). Devendra, a resident of Vani Vilasa extension of Mysuru was running a lathe and shutter factory at Mysuru. He had eight labourers working in the company. It is said that financial difficulties forced the family to kill themselves.
It is suspected that Devendra killed his wife and children and hanged himself. According to the death note, financial difficulties led Devendra to take the extreme step.
Devendra had come to the lodge at K S Rao Road on March 27 along with his wife and children. Initially, he took the room for a day and extended it further to two days. However, he did not vacate the room on March 30 also. On suspicion, the lodge staff opened the room using duplicate key and were shocked to find Devendra hanging from the fan. His wife and daughters were found in sleeping position on the bed.
Police suspect that Devendra must have killed his children by feeding them food laced with poison and strangled his wife before killing himself. It is said that he brought his wife and children to Mangaluru on the pretext of tour.
A shocked Ravi, elder brother of deceased Devendra, said that Devendra did not disclose any financial issues with him, though he and his brother’s family were very close. Recently, Devendra celebrated his twin daughters’ birthday also.
City police commissioner Kuldeep Kumar Jain urged people not to take the extreme step under any circumstances. He asked people under distress to call 112 helpline and contact police.
